It’s not talk like a pirate day, yet. @Pay’s ops team is using the open source project SaltStack to manage configurations on our servers, locally and in the cloud. Being nimble means having the ability to launch and configure cloud instances in a snap, and Salt allows us to do just that.
SaltStack entered the configuration management arena in 2011—joining tools such as Opscode’s Chef and Puppet Labs’ Puppet—and it’s seeing an explosion of growth, as it is both simple to configure and simple to use. You don’t have to be a programmer to use SaltStack (though knowing a bit of Python helps.)
One of the most interesting and rewarding parts of working for a startup is finding the right solution for each new challenge that arises as popularity and usage increases. With open source solutions such as SaltStack, the ability to meet those challenges of scale are simplified. Server configurations happen automagically, once you have the tool configured.
This international event takes place on Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you’re located in the Southwest and you’d like to learn more about SaltStack, we’d love for you join us!
